Residence A stands as a significant milestone in Luxembourg’s design landscape, notably raising consciousness about sustainability and environmental impact within a meticulously guarded zone.
Situated within the commune of Echternach, the house presents a façade that embodies a classic aesthetic, a deliberate concession to adhere to the stringent regulations of this historic city. However, its design ethos diverges significantly from traditional construction approaches.
Beyond navigating the confines of regulations, this project represents the culmination of extensive research aimed at materializing a zero-plastic, ecologically conscious design paradigm within a compact urban setting.
The edifice boasts custom-designed prefabricated wooden elements, the culmination of rigorous testing involving five distinct concepts in collaboration with experts across various domains. This collaborative effort birthed a wholly novel concept, featuring innovative elements meticulously tailored to optimize both energy efficiency and acoustic performance.
The achievement of energy efficiency and superior acoustics hinges on the selection of specific materials. Notably, the exterior walls integrate a dual-insulation system: wood fiber for interior insulation and quark for exterior insulation, with a revolutionary pressed texture interposed between them. This textured layer effectively mitigates external noise, elevating the acoustic standards of the structure.
In essence, this designed wall attains the performance benchmarks akin to a 50cm concrete wall while maintaining environmental integrity and occupying significantly less space.
Residence A stands tall as a multi-story edifice, fulfilling three primary functions: accommodating office spaces, commercial ventures, and residential units within its ambit.

Silo Tower
Training Facility, Atelier, Office, | 2021 | Hovelange, LU
Located in the serene town of Hovelange, the Silos Tower stands as an architectural venture designed to invigorate this tranquil community. Originally a storage facility for wheat and similar produce, ODA recognized the latent potential of this existing structure, envisioning its transformation into a multifaceted asset serving both the local populace and assuming the role of a defining landmark for the small town.
Challenges inherent to this project—constrained finances and limited land area—prompted a strategic decision to retain the original structure while infusing it with a contemporary dynamism. The dynamic design approach was purposefully aligned with the tower's internal function: a facility for training security personnel. Despite the absence of inherent architectural significance, ODA endeavored to imbue the structure with historical reverence while reimagining it as a modern-day icon.
Externally, the Silos Tower is clad in non-identical wooden panels deliberately employed as architectural tools to craft diverse forms and shapes, visually manifesting the dynamism inherent in the initial concept. Heightening the facade's extension aimed to grant the tower prominence, ensuring visibility from every corner of the neighborhood.
Primarily dedicated to training security personnel, the tower's limited space necessitated a flexible design ethos. Embracing flexibility as a core tenet, the project reimagined these constrained spaces into multi-functional zones through the integration of movable walls—shifting, retracting, and sliding elements. This innovative approach empowers a single area to serve myriad purposes, transforming seamlessly between lecture halls, meeting spaces, and more, fostering adaptability for both trainees and instructors.
