Residence A stands as a significant milestone in Luxembourg’s design landscape, notably raising consciousness about sustainability and environmental impact within a meticulously guarded zone.

Situated within the commune of Echternach, the house presents a façade that embodies a classic aesthetic, a deliberate concession to adhere to the stringent regulations of this historic city. However, its design ethos diverges significantly from traditional construction approaches.

Beyond navigating the confines of regulations, this project represents the culmination of extensive research aimed at materializing a zero-plastic, ecologically conscious design paradigm within a compact urban setting.

The edifice boasts custom-designed prefabricated wooden elements, the culmination of rigorous testing involving five distinct concepts in collaboration with experts across various domains. This collaborative effort birthed a wholly novel concept, featuring innovative elements meticulously tailored to optimize both energy efficiency and acoustic performance.

The achievement of energy efficiency and superior acoustics hinges on the selection of specific materials. Notably, the exterior walls integrate a dual-insulation system: wood fiber for interior insulation and quark for exterior insulation, with a revolutionary pressed texture interposed between them. This textured layer effectively mitigates external noise, elevating the acoustic standards of the structure.

In essence, this designed wall attains the performance benchmarks akin to a 50cm concrete wall while maintaining environmental integrity and occupying significantly less space.

Residence A stands tall as a multi-story edifice, fulfilling three primary functions: accommodating office spaces, commercial ventures, and residential units within its ambit.

Residence St. Laurent

Residential | 2021 | Lorentzweiler, LU

Situated in one of Luxembourg's most traditional communes, Residence St. Laurent defies convention. Balancing between client preferences and communal requirements, this project provided ODA Architects an avenue for exploration in contemporary design, sustainable material usage, and construction techniques.

The site itself posed a significant challenge as it featured an existing building, imposing restrictions on the volume, dimensions, and roof form. Rather than viewing this as a limitation, ODA harnessed design as a tool to infuse contemporary aesthetics into a traditional neighborhood. Recognizing the area's prevalent repetitive architectural style and facade, the St. Laurent residence was an opportunity to architecturally diverge and redefine the neighborhood's character.

The residence, comprising four floors including a basement and a functional attic, boasts a predominantly rectangular structure. Housing various apartments ranging from studios to duplexes, each floor exhibits distinctive features. The basement accommodates seven parking spaces allocated to the upper apartments, along with technical and storage areas. While the studio apartment offers a compact yet comfortable living space, the duplex extends across two floors with two bedrooms. Beyond the building's confines, the design incorporates a verdant communal garden, a lush oasis in an otherwise green-deficient locality, fostering a sense of community while respecting residents' privacy.

Residence St. Laurent's architectural expression derives from a blend of materials—finely cut stone on the ground floor coupled with aluminum extending to the roofline—that delineate its volumetric form. However, beyond aesthetics, the choice of materials serves a secondary purpose: sustainability.

The fusion of contemporary design, sustainability, and functionality within Residence St. Laurent contributes to its distinct architectural identity
