Residence A stands as a significant milestone in Luxembourg’s design landscape, notably raising consciousness about sustainability and environmental impact within a meticulously guarded zone.

Situated within the commune of Echternach, the house presents a façade that embodies a classic aesthetic, a deliberate concession to adhere to the stringent regulations of this historic city. However, its design ethos diverges significantly from traditional construction approaches.

Beyond navigating the confines of regulations, this project represents the culmination of extensive research aimed at materializing a zero-plastic, ecologically conscious design paradigm within a compact urban setting.

The edifice boasts custom-designed prefabricated wooden elements, the culmination of rigorous testing involving five distinct concepts in collaboration with experts across various domains. This collaborative effort birthed a wholly novel concept, featuring innovative elements meticulously tailored to optimize both energy efficiency and acoustic performance.

The achievement of energy efficiency and superior acoustics hinges on the selection of specific materials. Notably, the exterior walls integrate a dual-insulation system: wood fiber for interior insulation and quark for exterior insulation, with a revolutionary pressed texture interposed between them. This textured layer effectively mitigates external noise, elevating the acoustic standards of the structure.

In essence, this designed wall attains the performance benchmarks akin to a 50cm concrete wall while maintaining environmental integrity and occupying significantly less space.

Residence A stands tall as a multi-story edifice, fulfilling three primary functions: accommodating office spaces, commercial ventures, and residential units within its ambit.

Oberpallen Residence

Residential | 2023 | Oberpallen, LU

Situated in Oberpallen,a serene village within the Commune of Beckerich, this architectural endeavor encapsulates the meticulous renovation and expansion of a historic dwelling, transitioning its function from a single-family residence to a multifamily abode. Nestled at the southernmost tip of Luxembourg, bordering France, this locale boasts a unique cultural and geographical significance.

The existing house, revered as a paramount architectural heritage by the municipality, stands as a testament to the region's historical legacy. Comprising two floors and an attic, it holds immense cultural importance and warranted a sensitive and judicious approach to its renovation and extension.

Respecting the sanctity of the protected structure, our design strategy revolved around accentuating the existing building's significance. Rather than aligning the extension directly with the heritage structure, we opted to delicately retract it. This intentional shift highlights and amplifies the importance of the original house, creating an architectural narrative that venerates its historical essence.

On the ground floor, we carefully incorporated wooden siding for the facade, a choice aimed at preserving the visual integrity of the main building. This strategic use of wooden elements discreetly conceals the garage entrance doors, ensuring they do not disrupt the visual identity or historical charm of the structure.

With a vision to repurpose the space, the revamped building now comprises four apartments. Notably, the rear of the house underwent a transformation aimed at optimizing the use of the garden space. We facilitated direct access from the apartments to the garden, a thoughtful addition that reimagines the property's layout, enhancing its functionality and harmonizing indoor living spaces with the tranquil outdoor environment.

This sensitive renovation and extension project not only honors the architectural heritage but also reimagines the dwelling's functionality, creating a seamless blend of historical significance and modern living for multiple families within this revered locale.
